College Entrance

Who Can Apply

  • High school students in their final year of school and who are enrolling in September of this year in a  minimum two-year college diploma program in one of the following areas of training or study:
    • Accommodation
    • Chef
    • Cook
    • Culinary
    • Events
    • Food and Beverage
    • Golf Club
    • Hospitality
    • Hotel 
    • Resort
    • Restaurant
    • Tourism
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents

Criteria

Applications are reviewed by an independent panel of judges appointed by the Foundation and will be judged on the following criteria.  Points assigned to each of the criteria (from a total of 100 points) are as follows:
  • Work experience (20): based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for foodservice, hospitality, and culinary-related experience
  • Scholastic record (20): based on grade point average
  • Leadership and ability to get along with others (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
  • Professional promise (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
  • Discretionary points (10): given at the discretion of each judge and based amongst other things on quality of application (neatness, imagination and effort put into the presentation)

How to Apply

Complete the application form on-line.  In addition, you must submit hard copies of the following documents (please note that missing or incomplete documents may be grounds for elimination):
  • Final-year official transcripts from your previous academic year and report card from your current academic year (first  semester/first term)
  • Letter/s of recommendation from your school principal, teacher or guidance counselor
  • Letter/s of recommendation from past or present employers
Please note: school and employer letters must include telephone numbers and, where possible, e-mail addresses. The Foundation reserves the right to check all letters of recommendation.

Payment of Scholarship Money

Payment is made directly to the college or university for credit towards the recipient's tuition fees.  If the tuition fee has already been paid, the scholarship money will then be paid to the student by the school. The scholarship money will be paid in full in November of the year the scholarship is awarded.  However, payment will only be issued after the Foundation has obtained confirmation from the school of the recipient's full-time re-enrollment.

Deadline

Scholarship applications must be received no later than Wednesday,  April 30, 2008. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Results of the scholarship judging will be posted on the Foundation website www.chfscholarships.com by the end of June 2008.
